From June 25 to 27, Pisa will host the 15th edition of the “Scientific Days of SOI – the Italian Society of Horticultural Science.” This biennial event is a key reference point for sharing knowledge, scientific results, and technical-professional updates among scholars, researchers, technicians, and professionals in the horticultural sector. It fully reflects the institutional mission of SOI, which aims to promote scientific and technological advancement in the field and to strengthen the dialogue between research and its practical applications.

This year’s edition is organized by SOI in collaboration with the Department of Agricultural, Food and Agro-environmental Sciences of the University of Pisa and the Institute of Crop Science of the Sant’Anna School.

The conveners of the event are Professors Riccardo Gucci and Alberto Pardossi (University of Pisa), together with Antonio Ferrante and Luca Sebastiani (Sant’Anna School).

The program includes parallel sessions dedicated to highly relevant and current topics, such as biodiversity, biotechnology, precision agriculture, biostimulants, stress and postharvest physiology, horticultural biofortification, greenhouse, indoor and soilless cultivation, as well as landscape design. There will also be specific sessions focusing on strategic crops such as chestnut, kiwifruit, and grapevine. [Here is the full program.]

The event will feature the participation of numerous scholars who will present high-level scientific contributions. A total of 330 contributions have been received from over 250 authors, including around 100 young researchers under the age of 35 – among them PhD candidates and early-career researchers. This highlights the key role of the Scientific Days as a meeting point between established researchers and a new, motivated and skilled generation focused on innovation and sustainability in agriculture.

More than 100 oral presentations are scheduled, about half of which will be delivered by young researchers competing for the “Best Presentation under 35” award. In addition, three poster sessions are planned, one of which will also be accessible online.

The scientific sessions will take place on June 25 and 26 at the Carmignani Teaching Center in Piazza dei Cavalieri, Pisa.
